At about 7:30 a.m., Sherman Fire-Rescue was called to respond to what was initially reported as an explosion at the facility on Progress Drive. Sherman Fire Marshal Danny Fuller said the plant, which has its own emergency response personnel, had the incident under control before firefighters arrived on scene.

“He was alert and oriented, but they took him to the hospital just to check him out,” Fuller said of the worker.

Panda Power Funds Investor Relations and Public Affairs Vice President Bill Pentak said no one else was injured and the worker is fine. He said the worker was sent to the hospital mainly as a precautionary measure.

“From our perspective, the good news is that our safety procedures worked,” Pentak said. “The safety procedures were in place, the person had on the correct gear that they were supposed to have on and then our procedures from that point were quickly implemented as well — sending him to the hospital to get checked out.”
